As I said, safety was my #1 concern when considering a ball launcher. I needed something that wouldn’t harm Freya or anyone else (like me, because I’m a klutz already and very accident-prone) in the vicinity during play.

On a single charge, we could get anywhere from 300 to 800 launches, which meant we could play for days without worrying about the battery dying out. Plus, the battery doesn’t drain too quickly when it’s not in use. It rained for like a week straight and we couldn’t really play outside. We weren’t really in the mood to play indoors, either. That said, if you let it sit for a month it will almost definitely need to be recharged.

One of the things I loved most about the Uahpet iRetriever was its “go-anywhere” size. It only weighs 6.3 pounds, so it was incredibly easy to transport. To be honest, the furthest that I “transported” was from inside my house to the backyard. But you can easily take it with you to the dog park, a friend’s house, the beach…pretty much any dog-friendly place you can think of.
The portability also means that it won’t take up a ton of room in your house when it’s time to put it away. We store ours under a little table near our back door, where it’s completely out of the way.

Before we get to the few things I don’t particularly love, I just need to clarify something: Uahpet sent me a VERY early release of their ball launcher (as in, before they even had packaging or directions printed up for it). They actually sent it to me in a real wooden shipping crate, which I love so much (I’ve never, ever, ever, ever, ever received something in a real old-timey shipping crate, and I was overly fascinated by the whole experience). So, some of these “cons” may not even be applicable anymore. Just keep that in mind.
No instructions, so I had to try to figure it out myself.
I also felt like the buttons weren’t as “intuitive” as they could have been. It took me a few tries to figure out how to get the balls to launch.
Occasionally, it wouldn’t launch at all. I don’t know if something triggered the safety feature (no one was in front of it) or what, but I’d press the button and nothing would happen.
As far as drawbacks go, those were the only ones I noticed. Again, they could very well no longer be issues now that Uahpet has officially launched the launcher. 😀
